BGH Classic Pack - Remake-Apolooza! Vol. 2

We know that not all horror remakes are created equal. As we explored in the first volume of BGH Classic's Remake-Apolooza, with the right mix of vision and talent you can rework a classic. This week marks one of the biggest tests of that theory to date, as the long-anticipated "Evil Dead" reimagining hits theaters -- and the Bloody Good Horror podcast.

Horror Headlines: Wednesday January 19th, 2011

Every day I look on the tubes for news that's going to grab you by the lips and yank. Some days that task is pretty hard. Today is not one of those days. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you a very NSFW clip of from "Drive Angry" where Nic Cage is having sex with a women while having a gunfight. I don't want to say you should skip the rest of the news but I'd be lying if I said it wasn't going to go downhill after this.

Because "Piranha 3D" is hitting DVD and Blu-Ray and that gives us a reason to continue being pervs, the makers recently held an online "Hottest Babes in Horror" showdown on their site. The winner? One Miss Eliza Dushku. The losers? A porn stay way past her prime, a girl I think is someone but if I'm wrong I sound really racist and a bunch of other people I don't recognized. So yeah, congrats.

Michael Tully is a director and he's created a movie called "Septien" that has the greatest movie poster I've seen this year. No there isn't anyone nude on it, sometimes I can be classy to you know. The movie focuses on a gambler who returns home after being away for years to reconnect with his insane brothers. Side note, I have no idea how to pronounce the title of this film.

"Dibbuk Box", which sounds like a Japanese prono, has added Kyra Sedgwick to it's ever growing cast list. From Sam Raimi's Ghost House Pictures, the movie follows the story of a young boy who becomes strangely attracted to a wooden box that contains a soul chomping demon. Sedgwick will play the unlucky tike's mother.

In Real People News:

Nothing ruins a day of fun like losing your grip on the inflatable sex doll that you're floating down a river on. Luckily these Australian teens were rescued after the mishap and all is now well again. From the photo I think the sex doll made it out OK too, so happy times all around.

Cops ruin everything, fact. Here's a story of a guy who was playfully running around a highway completely naked after getting all wacky on LSD and booze and then the cops had to come along and taser him, three times. On second thought that sounds really awesome and the only bad part is that it wasn't captured on film.

The Top Ten Horror Movies of 2010

Dieter Laser of The Human Centipede

When the BGH Crew began discussing its nominations for its list of the top ten horror films of the year, one thing became rather obvious. While it's been a year filled with lots of quality horror films -- indeed, some might even say risky films -- there wasn't that one movie that broke away from the crowd to truly establish itself as the best.

Horror Headlines: Thursday November 11th, 2010

In a shocking twist the much anticipated sequel to "Piranha 3D" will be shot in... you guess it, 3D. I can't say I'm mad about this and the fact that they're calling it "Piranha 3DD", teehee, makes me giddy as all get out. I think that's a saying.

What's got two thumbs and has Nicolas Cage fever? This guy! And you will too after you check out this new poster for "Season of the Witch". Did you look? Are you excited? Did you see Ron Perlman's name awkwardly placed at the bottom? I love it!

Alan Spencer, the guy who created "Alan Spencer" (look it up it's awesome) is working on a new show for IFC that follows a serial killer who's trying to juggle both his after hours activities and his social life. It's going to be called "Dextter". Alright that last part is a lie but it's a good suggestion I think.

A movie about a magic mushroom hunt gone terribly wrong? Sign me up kids, here's some new images from the German slasher flick "One Way Trip 3D". Let me narrate them for you. "Creepy, boring, creepy boring, holy crap why would you do that?!"

In Real People News:

Didn't Bill Cosby do a bit on this? A man in Pennsylvania was picked up for lighting a joint in the delivery room while his wife was giving birth. Wrong sure but I can imagine that's a pretty stressful event. Cut the guy some slack.

A woman in Florida is facing charges after trying to sell her baby in order to buy a car. Now before we go calling her a monster let's ask ourselves, what kind of car was it? A used Dodge Neon? Awful. A NEW Dodge Neon? Understandable. Wait they don't make Neon's anymore? Burn the witch!

2000 - A cable car crammed with skiers and snowboarders caught fire while being pulled through an Alpine tunnel in Austria, killing 155 people.

"Piranha 3D" set a new precedent, so why not copy it? That's exactly what "Shark Night 3D" plans to do while tempting us with these bikini shots of Sarah Paxton and Katherine McPhee. And James Cameron thought "Piranha" was dumb.

Daniel Stamm saw box office success with "The Last Exorcism" this past weekend and he's already looking ahead to future projects. While not yet certain, the director has said that his next film may be "Twelve Strangers", a supernatural thriller. This film is slated to be the second entry in the M. Night Shyamalan "Night Chronicles" trilogy.

There has been some confusion on the announcement of Dimension revealing their plans for a ninth "Hellraiser" film, planned for direct to video release instead of the rumored remake of the original film. Finally revealing their plan, the studio cited the ticking clock on their option to the franchise forcing them to move ahead on "Hellraiser: Revelations" since concrete plans for the remake were no where near coming to fruition.

In Real People News:

A Dallas man sat in court to receive his sentence for an outstanding assault charge. When the judge announced that he would receive 40 years in prison, the 47 year old man pulled a razor blade from his pocket and slit his own throat. Thwarted by those around him, the man was removed from the courtroom with bandages wrapped around his neck with a scheduled pit stop at the ER on his way to prison.

Horror Headlines: Monday August 30th, 2010

Not content to rest on his laurels, Tom Six has already begun filming "Human Centipede: Full Sequence". Per Six, they plan to finish filming by December and have the film in the Sundance Film Festival by January.

Neil Marshall is going to take you out to eat for his next film "Underground" as he explores the world of cannibalism and exclusive supper clubs. With Marshall's track record, I'll just go ahead and assume this flick will be alright.

John Cusack's going to play a troubled writer! Glad to see he's trying something new, right? This time around, it's not just any old troubled writer; Cusack's been cast as Edgar Allen Poe in an upcoming biopic. Don't worry film makers, we can just forget about genre veteran Jefferey Coombs who's been playing Poe on stage for the last two years to critical accolades.

James Cameron thinks that movies like "Piranha 3D" cheapen the 3D medium he worked so hard to breath new life into. I'd like to remind Mr. Cameron that he's the reason every damn movie coming out lately is trying to shoehorn 3D into it's tag lines. That, and I guess he forgot directing the original 3D "Piranha" film?

In Real People News:

Paris Hilton was busted for coke possession in Las Vegas this past weekend. I guess all the Lindsday Lohan rehab news was stealing her thunder.

On this day in history:

1859 - At the University of Göttingen, PhD candidate Albert Niemann isolates the alkaloid C17H21NO4 from leaves of the plant Erythroxylum coca. Niemann names his white, powdery discovery "cocaine" and observes firsthand its peculiarly strong anesthetic effect: "it benumbs the nerves of the tongue, depriving it of feeling and taste."

"Piranha 3D" didn't break any box office records this past weekend but a sequel has already been announced. Not a big surprise I guess but I am looking forward to seeing how they bring back Kelly Brook. What I mean is please bring back Kelly Brook... please!

If this memo is to be believed than it looks like we'll be seeing the teaser for "Scream 4" in theaters sometime this November. If it's fake a bunch of people will talk about how stupid all of us were for thinking it was real. One thing is for sure though, I have absolutely no desire to see "Scream 4"

Steven Spielberg along with Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci are planning on bringing Joe Hill's "Locke & Key" to the small screen in the near future. The comic book revolves around a couple of kids who watch over a old mansion filled with spooky doors that send them to different worlds and give them super powers. With so many people with classy sounding names attached to this there's no way it can't win.

Good news everyone! "Saw II" the video game will be available for your PS3 and Xbox 360 on October 19th. Alright I really have no idea if that is good news but it can't be any worse then "Saw 3D" coming out shortly after.

In Real People News:

Police in New York found an 18-inch alligator that crawled out of an overflowing Astoria storm drain and hunkered down beneath a parked car on Sunday. Enjoy your commute pricks!

Horror Headlines: Thursday April 22nd, 2010

Good news for those who loathed the "Friday the 13th" remake: According to producer Brad Fuller, the follow-up to Marcus Nispel's unpopular reimagining has been effectively shutdown until further notice. I doubt few tears will be shed over this news. Very few.

Fans of tasteless and depraved cinema, listen up. The latest round of promotions for Jen and Sylvia Soska's debut "Dead Hooker in a Trunk" are both disturbing and strangely hilarious. The film might be a giant piece of crap, but they've definitely ensnared my attention.

Considering that Alexandre Aja's "Piranha 3D" is only a few months away, you'd think the studio behind the remake would be promoting the hell out of the thing. Thankfully, a load of promotional images from the moderately promising reboot have finally begun making the proverbial rounds. Call me crazy, but I'm starting to have my doubts.

In Real People News:

Thinking about throwing cheeseballs at oncoming traffic? If so, don't be overly surprised when one of the offended drivers makes it a point to run you down. Besides, I'd say you had it coming.

Guess what? A recent study suggests that premature ejaculation could be passed to unsuspecting males on a genetic level. The next time you fail miserably in the bedroom, give your pops a call and tell him "Thanks, buddy."
