Mama (REVIEW)

Mama marks the feature film debut of director Andrés Muschietti. Inspired by his short film of the same title , Mama revels in archaic horror tropes; favoring the terrors of primordial nature, feral humanity, madness, ghosts moaning in the night, and the return of the repressed. The film is drenched in fiercely aggressive shadows, tightly framed locations, and more than a handful of scenes involving scuttling figures climbing across floors and walls.

Trailers: Former Rue Morgue editor's debut gets picked up

Rodrigo Gudino, the original Editor of Canadian horror mag Rue Morgue, finds his directorial debut being picked up by Anchor Bay Canada, for a 2013 release. I interviewed Gudino years ago and came away from it thinking he was incredibly intelligent and passionate about the genre. I can't speak to the quality of "The Last Will and Testament of Rosalind Leigh", but this teaser makes it look pretty interesting. Either way, Gudino is someone we want championing the genre.

US distribution isn't hammered out yet, but don't be surprised if it happens soon.

The Corridor (REVIEW)

"The future didn't want me..." It's a strong phrase uttered by one of the tragic characters at the heart of the story in "The Corridor". It's also, arguably, a sentiment that a good number of males in their late 20's can relate to these days. Our parents were long since settled by this time in their lives, with children, a career and a home with a mortgage. In 2012 however, that's not always the case. Many of us spend an entire decade in our 20's trying to "find ourselves", aimlessly searching for something we can't quite define.
