slasher films

ATM (REVIEW)

"Buried", "Frozen", "Phone Booth" and countless other horror/thrillers have tried their hand at the 'single location' genre as I'll call it. The genre is a problem in itself; relying exclusively on compelling characters, mysterious motives, or potential plot twists with the setting to provide exciting entertainment. For example "Buried" plays upon the charisma of Ryan Reynolds and his character's everyman plight. "Frozen" adds the wrinkle that the ski resort won't be open for another week and a blizzard is coming.

Don't Go In The Woods (REVIEW)

Horror movies be damned, there's plenty of reasons to not go in the woods for mundane reasons. Mosquitos will show you no mercy, and leave you an itchy, aggravated mess with lumpy arms, legs and neck. Odds are when you stop to heed nature's call you'll squat over poison oak. Stopping to eat some berries could leave you poisoned and gasping your last breaths miles away from civilization while folded in a fetal position, clutching your stomach and grimacing with indescribable agony.

Chromeskull: Laid to Rest 2 (REVIEW)

I’ve never seen the original “Laid to Rest”. I mention this fact as it’s the root cause of most of my problems with the sequel, “Chromeskull: Laid to Rest 2”. Unlike a good sequel, which will expand upon the world introduced by the original in a way that gives old fans more of what they love and simultaneously creates new fans, “Chromeskull” takes a decidedly different approach.

Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday (REVIEW)

Horror Headlines: Wednesday January 26th, 2011

Looks like "Scream 4" isn't quite screamy enough yet so Wes Craven is heading back behind the camera to do some re-shoots next week. I'm sure he reads the site so I'd like to talk to Mr. Craven directly now. Wes, can I call you Wes? Wes what's with the cheerleader from "Heroes" looking like a boy? What's say we let that hair grow and and cast her as a girl? You're doing re-shoots anyway. Thanks Wes!

If anyone's written a horror movie lately and wants it picked up now's your chance because Slash is obviously all kinds of drugged up and signing off on just about anything. Over the past few weeks he's signed on to produce a number of flicks with his new Slasher Films company and now we learn he's got two more, "Theorem" from Vincenzo Natali and "The Other Kingdom" from Philip Eisner. Silly top hat.

The South Korean film "I Saw the Devil" finally has a trailer and much to my surprise it is chock full of South Korean people. I have no idea if that's accurate. Kim Jee-woon, the guy who brought you "The Good, the Bad, the Weird", directs the film which marks his first attempt at horror. I don't care what culture you're from, I'm not comfortable with any man being named Kim.

If you're tired of all these big budget exorcism movies then here's "The Disco Exorcist" to save the day. The film is suppose to be another grindhouse romp and I can only assume will feature both a disco and an exorcism. We can only wait and see though folks, I'm not a fortune teller.

In Real People News:

A 33 year old women in Buenos Aires survived a jump from the 23rd floor of a hotel after landing on a taxi. Which is pretty amazing but what's even more awesome is that there's a photo. Cameras rule!

A Connecticut man when ahead and sued his former job because he says he was wrongfully fired for not being able to urinate on demand for drug tests. Which is funny because if he wins this he'll probably be so excited he'll pee his pants. Get it!

Easter Bunny: Kill!Kill!

I learned about this dark little indie horror film from a friend on twitter. Obviously, as a Connoisseur of Crap, the title grabbed my attention immediately, and since it's available through Netflix, I immediately added it.

Horror Headlines: Thursday October 7th, 2010

"The Loved Ones" hits Australian theaters on November 4th and today we've got some new TV spots for you to take a look at. By all accounts this movie looks awesome, who doesn't love a cute girl going around 'effing people up? Well the people she's doing it to probably, but that goes without saying. I hate when you question me.

Here's some new clips from Wes Craven's "My Soul to Take" and the kids are just adorable. It's almost getting to the point that I'm going to feel like a creepy old man when I go to see this. Almost...

Someone is actually going to pay $100,000 for the world's largest book? I have to sleep in a bathtub at Horror Hound Weekend and Schnaars is dropping that kind of loot on a book?
