Horror Headlines: Tuesday, December 6th, 2011

Tuesday is the worst day of the week for most people. What you might not know is that in days of old villages would sacrifice a cow every Tuesday. Of course back then a month of 30 days only had 2 Tuesdays, it's just the way the week was set up. But over time most villages ran out of cows because of all the sacrifices. Most townsfolk starved to death. This is in fact what wiped out the dinosaurs.

"The Cabin In the Woods" has a trailer! I still have no idea what the movie is about but I can 100% confirm there is in fact a cabin and it is in fact in the woods.

"The Devil Inside" is yet another addition to the long list of exorcism flicks that have made their ways into our hearts over the past couple years. But hey here's some new screen shots from the film and they look like they were filmed on some crappy VHS recorder that they found at the back of someone's mother's closet so that's something new. I'm not saying it's a good thing, I'm just saying it's new.

The Ring Lord himself Mr. Peter Jackson has recently wrapped up production on a new documentary about the "West Memphis Three", a true story about three men who were wrongfully accused for the murder of three 8-year-old boys and subsequently spent 18 years in prison. I don't have any sarcastic comments here, cause ya know even I'm not that big of a monster. I'm close... but not that big.

You ever see that movie "The Warriors"? Man it's awesome. I love the speech that main guy gives about "turf" just before all hell breaks loose. It's so dope, son. Anyway the movie "Turf" is a big screen adaptation of a graphic novel by the same name and has absolutely nothing to do with that speech or "The Warriors". There's a bunch of gangsters, vampires and aliens battling it out in 1920's New York though. Oh man, The Baseball Furies! They scared the crap out of me.

In Real People News:

Halloween is long gone my friends but for a group of high school kids in Miami the memories are still fresh in their heads. Why you might ask? Well because the school's on duty cop came to school dressed as a gynecologist named "Harry Beaver" and the shit is still in fact hitting the fan.

This should probably go without saying but never, EVER, ever try to rob an MMA fighter. You will in fact get your ass kicked.

The Frighteners (REVIEW)

(The following review is based on the “Director’s Cut” version of “The Frighteners” included on the film’s recent Blu-Ray release.)

Horror Headlines: Wednesday June 8th, 2011

The world demanded it and the good people at Universal answered our prayers. I speak of course about "Death Race 3". While nothing has been confirmed there's word around campus that Paul W.S. Anderson will be writing the script for part 3 and Danny Trejo will return. Tanit Phoenix will also be back and that's exciting for all of us because according to IMDB she's played a stripper in about 8 movies and starred in something called "Kamasutra Nights". Let the Oscar buzz begin!

This afternoon I was down at the Manhole for lunch and the rumors flying around there are that none other than Paul Walker, Texas Ranger is in talks to play Kyle Reese in the much anticipated "Terminator 5". Of course that's not his real name but it would be awesome if it was. Anyway Justin Lin, who directed Walker in the last "Fast & Furious" movie is set to direct... I trust my fellow foodies down at The Manhole on this one. The lunch buffet is delicious, don't judge.

Years before Peter Jackson directed a 38 hour trilogy he directed a movie I actually liked called "The Frighteners" starring Michael J. Fox. And while three films that spawned a million pornos have been released in countless formats sadly "The Frighteners" has yet to make its way to Blu-Ray. Well good news kids, come September 13th you can get your grubby little mits on the flick with tons of special features and 0 wizards. Alright in all fairness the porn parodies are pretty decent. The visuals, you wouldn't believe!

Pultizer Prize winning playwright David Lindsay-Abaire is being taken out for a lovely steak dinner by the people at MGM in the hopes that he will write the much discussed "Poltergeist" remake. No word on if he'll accept but if he orders dessert it's pretty much understood he has to, especially if it's the 3rd date.

In Real People News:

A 48 year old father in Memphis is under arrest after threatening the host of a birthday party with a gun because she didn't save any ice cream and cake for his kids. Which is stressful for a number of reasons, namely that now I have to add a gun to the list of things I need to buy before I become a parent.

Let this be a lesson to all of you out there. If you're going to bite your girlfriend's ear off during an argument make sure your dentures are in securely. Because this guy in South Carolina who went a bite-in' and lost his chompers must have felt like a real prick when he had to explain the whole thing to a judge.

Netflix Streaming Friday: "Dead Alive (Braindead)"

Yes. "Dead Alive" is now streaming.

For most of you, that's enough to have you go rushing to your TVs to boot your Netflix streaming device of choice up. If you're somehow unfamilar with the film "Dead Alive", you may know it under the name "Braindead".

Actress Zelda Rubinstein, best known for her role as Tangina in Tobe Hooper's classic "Poltergeist," died of natural causes on Wednesday. She was 76.

Have you longed to feel the rancid breath of a giant ape on your face as he leaps over your head to attack a rampaging Tyrannosaurus Rex? If so, you're in the luck. Filmmaker Peter Jackson has helped Universal Studios relaunch their "King Kong" theme park ride, which will open its doors this summer. Remember to pack your banana hammock.

The first trailer for Capcom's upcoming live-action adaptation of "Dead Rising" has appeared online. It's cheap, it's ugly, and it's extremely violent. In other words, I'm giddy with excitement.

Anchor Bay recently announced they have acquired the rights to Agnieszka Wojtowicz-Vosloo's "After Life," a new horror/thriller starring Christina Ricci, Justin Long, and Liam Neeson. When this thing will see the light of day is still anybody's guess.

In Real People News:

What do 18 year-old female werewolves do for fun? For starters, they use pocket knives to severe the heads of lost dogs. Time permitting, they boil the skulls.

I'm no parent, but I'm pretty sure strapping your baby to the wall with duct tape isn't in the instruction manual. Neither is documenting the event with your digital camera.

When you're hanging out in the parking lot at the local mall, the last thing you expect is to be savagely attacked by a wandering cobra. Destro was not immediately available for comment.

Box Office Special - "District 9" Wins One for the Little Guys

In the seven weeks since "Transformers 2" opened the average budget for a weekend-winning film has been $156 million. That's an average, mind you, and it's weighed down somewhat by "Bruno," which opened at #1 after costing only a measly $42 million. Truly, this summer, big-budgets have been king. Even "Bruno" was the most expensive new release in the weekend that it won.

Trailer For Peter Jackson's "The Lovely Bones"

Two days ago, on 'the twitter', I was tweetin' about how there were no movies I was looking forward to seeing. Today (well, and admittedly yesterday: "Zombieland"), I found a movie that made my vagina, grow a boner.

New "District 9" featurette

After all the build-up with those "For Humans Only" posters everywhere and a tiny teaser trailer, we finally get a real glimpse at the upcoming "District 9" with this new featurette below. It has lots of footage we haven't seen yet and interviews with director Neil Blomkamp, producer Peter Jackson, and actor Sharlto Copley. This featurette reveals some of the major plot points, but I'm hoping there are still a few surprises left. "District 9" hits theaters August 14th.
