10. John Dies at the End
Again, being caught up simply in the story, “John Dies at the End” stands out for simply going against the grain. The story is nonsensical times, but it has a definite destination and it gets us there. It just has a lot of fun on the ride there. Formulas are easy, so it’s nice to see a film that throws said formula to the way side.

"American Mary" has been taking the horror world by storm lately, and it's easy to see why. It's directed by the "Soska Twins", Jen and Sylvia, a rising directing duo most known at this point for their dark horror comedy "Dead Hooker in a Trunk".

Halloween is fast approaching which means your local non-chain movie theater is putting the finishing touches on any horror-related programming with the hopes of filling the seats with genre fans. In my hometown of Boston, we're lucky enough to have no shortage of indie cinemas, and each of them-the Brattle, the Coolidge Corner and the Somerville Theater all have fantastic programming lined up.
