Concert Review: Warbringer, Lazarus A.D.

It was in places like this that heavy metal began. A small-time bar out in the sticks with a stage, where the old Peavey PA has a significant hum and half the gathered crowd was there to watch the NLCS. It was in places like this, where billiards tables were pushed out of the way and the walls were undecorated, where bands made their name under dim, yellow-hued incandescent lighting. (Lighting so poor that only black and white photos were exposing properly.) These were, and are, the proving grounds.

Album Review: Warbringer - "Worlds Torn Asunder"

There’s a fair chance that much of this review will seem like a paraphrased version of our journey through Warbringer’s “Waking Into Nightmares” in 2009. That’s probably fairly accurate, but it stems from the fact that refreshingly little has changed about Warbringer.

Heavy Metal News Updates!

Slayer frontman Tom Araya was admitted to the hospital and kept, thus canceling Slayer's Sydney, Australia tour date at Soundwave. Rumors abound as to why Araya was admitted, but details are cloudy right now. What's important is that Araya is reportedly "feeling better."

Concert Review - Overkill, Warbringer

The Webster Theater in Hartford is not an especially friendly venue. It doesn't boast any particular character or amazing features. Rather, it is just an open space with a stage and some bars, painted over to make it look grander than it is. The walls are decked with signs telling customers in no uncertain terms what they cannot do; no smoking, no moshing, no crowd surfing, no stage diving, etc. Lucky for the Webster Theater, that doesn't prevent the shows inside from being excellent. So, I walked in for Killfest 2010.

Warbringer's Favorite Horror Movies!

I'm really excited to be able to present the following list to you. I have been trumpeting the merits of California-based thrash metal up and comers Warbringer for almost a year now, and I still get just as much enjoyment in their album "Waking Into Nightmares" as I did the day it was released. Here now with his top ten favorite horror films, John Laux, guitarist of Warbringer! The stage is yours:

The Top 11 Heavy Metal Albums of the Decade

Okay, with all the recent "best [blank] of the decade" going on, I decided it was high time I got involved. Seeing as how I can only proclaim myself to be an expert in a few things, and "best pork roast recipes of the decade" didn't seem terribly theme appropriate, I got to thinking about heavy metal, as I so often do.

Warbringer - "Waking Into Nightmares" Review

Yes. Yes, yes, yes. Frequent readers of my little corner of the universe will remember that I have been campaigning for the emergence of a new American thrash metal band for months now. Also recall that when I saw Soilwork live back in February, I spoke at some length about the up and coming band Warbringer. I encouraged everyone to look into their forthcoming album “Waking Into Nightmares” and said we’d reconvene upon its release in the spring.
