honeymoon

(Editor's note: Over the rest of this week and next we'll be rolling out our staff picks for the best in horror from 2014, leading up to the official BGH Best of 2014 list and the Year in Review podcast. Enjoy!)

The Best

1. Honeymoon - First film for female director Leigh Janiak. This film is simplistic in its effects, but really packs a punch with an original story and some truly haunting visuals.

You probably know Rose Leslie as the scary ass woman who killed a bunch of people on "Game of Thrones". I mean she killed them in the actual show, not like people on the set. I'm 99% sure she'd be in jail or on the run if she was an actual murderer.

"A Perfect Getaway" arrives in theaters at a fortuitous time. Summer has transitioned from effervescent delight to overheated slog, and as the temperature (and the humidity) have risen, so too has our desire for a snappy and refreshing cinematic experience. In many ways -- "Getaway," a product of veteran Hollywood filmmaker David Twohy -- provides that experience. It's breezy and exciting, not to mention brisk, at just a hair over 90 minutes.
