Horror Headlines: Wednesday August 18th, 2010

J. J. Abrams has a new project in his pocket and get this; it sounds weird! Who'd have guessed, right? This time around, he's tapping into the old make out game 7 Minutes in Heaven as two teens go into a closet to make out for five minutes, only to find all of their friends dead when they emerge.

If you're a horror blu-ray collector, you'll finally have a highly sought after title in your collection on August 31st. Details have emerged on "The Evil Dead" blu-ray release including two all new 1080p transfers and full 5.1 surround.

Need some vampire fiction in your life? Put down those sappy glitter novels, there's another author in town with some bona-fide street cred; Adrienne Barbeau has a fang story to tell you in "Love Bites", the sequel to her successful novel "Hollywood Vampyre".

Unless you've spent the last month in a cave, you're well aware that "Piranha 3D" is ready to infest theaters this week. In order to kick up their marketing once again, the cast of the movie has released a a new video to plead their case to the Academy on why the film should be nominated for an Oscar.

Do you remember that 80's nugget "Motel Hell"? You know, the one with the beef jerky? We'll never see a remake of that flick and that's okay. IDW Publishing is releasing a comic book version of the story to fill the void! Note: If you felt a void by the idea of no more "Motel Hell", you may want to see a doctor.

In Real People News:

When the repo men showed up to tow away an Australian father's RV, they found themselves a big surprise. Two years ago, the father shot his 21 year old daughter seven times before hog tying her and stuffing her into the freezer of his RV. He had hoped she could be resurrected eventually and planned to keep her frozen for at least seven years.

On this day in history:

1227 - Genghis Khan dies in his sleep, after a fall from his horse. His old age and drinking probably contributed to his death, which the Mongols manage to keep secret for some time. I assume this was the inspiration for "Weekend at Bernie's".
