Over the history of death metal, an awful lot of adjectives have been used to describe the genre’s fare; fast, loud, harsh, brutal, noisy, nasty, visceral, and increasingly as the subgenre develops, technical. Though many of them paint part of the picture, none of those words accurately describes the whole of Hypocrisy’s new album, “End of Disclosure.” The painted portions that do apply to the album rest dutifully on the canvas of another word, one never used in death metal except in very rare occasions; measured.

Preaching Pure Hypocrisy - Interview with Peter Tägtgren

If someone someday constructed a Mount Rushmore of Swedish death metal, there's a very good chance that Peter Tägtgren would be a candidate for inclusion. Revolutionary in his early days and a mainstay in the worldwide genre now, Tägtgren is just about ready to drop "End of Disclosure" on the world, the newest album from his primary band Hypocrisy. That's only the beginning of the musical year for Tägtgren, however, as he's also about to hit the road for a tour and somehow found time to work on the new Children of Bodom record. We were honored that the man himself found a few minutes to spare to talk with us about all of these things and more.

M. DREW: You’ve got a whole new album out, what’s new on this record that long-time fans will have never heard before?

The Best Metal and Hard Rock Albums of 2011

I have long theorized that music in general works in cycles of twenty to twenty-five years, and that what's old can continually be made new again, like doctoring up that potato salad for one last go-around. To wit, in the 1990's, Pantera, Alice in Chains and the rest of grunge listed their influences as Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple and the classic rock of the 70's. In the 1970's, Led Zeppelin and their cohorts listed their influences as Chuck Berry, Blind Lemon Jefferson, and the blues and rock musicians of the 50's.

Album Review: PAIN - "You Only Live Twice"

The long running and yet on-again-off-again musical creation known as PAIN has twisted, turned, bent, changed, morphed and changed again over the years. The constant is frontman/guitar player Peter Tägtgren, who remains focused on turning PAIN into a household name. Already a dynamo in his home of Sweden because of his work with Hypocrisy among other acts, Tägtgren has assembled another compendium for this vanity project and released his latest album, “You Only Live Twice.”
