Tokyo Zombie Coming in April

Japan... land of mass teen suicides, tentacle sex, Kobe beef... basically all the things I want for myself, but wouldn't dare dream of trying to actually attain.

Now you can add to the list of things Japan has, "films that look vaguely like Shaun of the Dead". This one's a horror/comedy called "Tokyo Zombie", and is coming to you in April via those horror mongers over at Anchor Bay. Here's the synopsis:

Tadanobu Asano (the Academy-Award® nominated Mongol) and Show Aikawa (Zebraman, Specter, winner of the Japanese Professional Film Award) portray a pair of full-time slackers and wannabe jujitsu champions who bring the murdered body of their sleazy boss to Tokyo’s infamous toxic waste dump known as “Black Fuji.”

But when an army of the undead rises from the foul, festering trash heap, our “heroes” must battle a non-stop barrage of hasty decapitations, perverted teachers, tasty snack foods (!), stormy romance and zombie professional wrestling. Yes, the fate of humanity hinges on these two dimwit misfits – one dumber than the other!

Not sure how you battle a snack food, but I'm sure it won't make any more sense after you see it so you may as well go with it. Also, we've all talked about how played out the zombie subgenre is at this point, not to mention the "zomcom", but I think we can all agree when the Japanese do it it's just adorable. Look, they think they can make movies too!

And the trailer...

Expect a review for this as soon as we can get our hands on it. Street date is April 7th of this year. We don't have DVD art yet, but here's a poster I found online. It's delightfully... pink?
