High schoolers in "The Curse of Downers Grove"

Senior Year Can be Murder in New "Curse of Downers Grove" Trailer

In the new trailer for The Curse of Downers Grove, we meet a group of high school seniors who’ve got way more on their minds than just prom or graduation. In the town of Downers Grove, IL, a senior has died gruesomely right before graduation each year for about a decade. One senior, Chrissie (Bella Heathcote), doesn’t have much time for curses, at least not at the start of the trailer. However, as things progress – and a lot of flashy, stylized violence goes down – she seems to lose the gallows humor and start edging closer to belief.

Maybe it’s the high school setting, maybe it’s the brooding boyfriend character that’s up to no good, but there’s a clear Scream feel to Downers Grove. Or maybe, considering the town’s blood-splattered history, the feeling is more My Soul to Take. Hopefully not the latter. Either way a “From the maker of Scream” title card seemed inevitable. But that's not true and so there was no such card. There is a “From the writer of American Psycho” title card since Bret Easton Ellis penned the film’s screenplay, which is based off a novel from a different writer, Michael Hornburg.

The supposedly-based-on-true-events Curse of Downers Grove will be getting a limited theatrical run starting on Aug. 21 and will be making its way to DVD/Blu-Ray shortly thereafter on Sept. 1.
