Posters: "Barn of the Naked Dead" is a better poster than actual movie
Hi Everybody! Your Connoisseur of Crap is back, with a delectable gem from the era of polyester jumpsuits & chest medallions. Of course, the horror flavor of that decade was chock full of exploitation and women empowerment themes - it's just that most of them weren't that good, and "Barn of the Naked Dead" was no exception.
Most of these films didn't leave much of an impression, but I'm fascinated by their movie posters. The colors compliment, rather than contrast, making no single image stand out. You're forced to take in the entire collage of images and characters, which tells the story without giving it away.
If you're looking for this gem, it was released on DVD in 2007 under the title '"Nightmare Circus", which tends to make more sense since there isn't a lick of nudity, gore or zombies in this film. There is a barn though! Be warned - the transition to DVD didn't make the production value any better, as the muted colors seemed washed out and bland, but it's worth a watch for its emphasis on psychological terror, rather than brutal exploitation that was common in this decade. There's also a great interview with Andrew Prine, Fred Olen Ray and other actors/directors from the film.
It's not the worse film out there from the 70s, but this is definitely one to watch with friends and make a drinking game out of the horrendous acting.
