Those of you who are big Guillermo del Torro fans, like I am, have probably been anxiously awaiting the prolific filmmaker's return to the fantastical and magical world that he became so well known for with films like Pan's Labyrinth and the Hellboy franchise. Though del Torro is an incrediby gifted writer, director, and producer, who has proven himself able to craft attention-grabbing stories and settings in any genre, I personally love him best when he is weaving tales that feel like the fairytales I heard as a child, with much darker and more pronounced shadows.
Enter his latest project, Crimson Peak. Set in an unidentifiable past in a countryside that is mesmerizing and barren, Crimson Peak tells the story of a young woman who finds herself living quite out of her element after falling in love with a mysterious man. The trailer doesn't give us very much in the way of story, opting instead to hint vaguely at sinister goings on while beautiful and terrifying images sweep across the screen. What you will see, however, is that this movie promises a captivating and swoon-worthy caast, from Charlie Hunnam and Tom Hiddleston to Jessica Chastain and Mia Wasikowska.
With a release date in October, we still have a while to wait but I, for one, am excited!
