Teri Polo, of "Meet the Parents" fame, has signed on to star in Joe Dante's "Hole", to play the mother of a 14 year old boy who discovers a bottomless hole in their basement. I think if I were him I'd be more horrified at the fact that my mother had one of the hottest Playboy shoots ever. Also of note, anyone ever read "House of Leaves"? Actually a semi-similar concept to this. Fantastic book btw, in case you haven't read it.

"Grace" is a film starring Jordan Ladd, that concerns a mother who loses a child and decides to carry it full term, only to have it mysteriously come back to life after birth with a thirst for blood. Sounds... nasty. Some words from the screenwriter and pics can be found at the link.

In a not very surprising move, Showtime has extended it's hit show "Dexter" for another 2 seasons. The Season 3 premiere, which happened a few weeks back, was the biggest ratings winner in Showtime's history. The previous high? The season 2 premiere. The show stars Michael C. Hall, Julie Benz and Jennifer Carpenter and follows blood spatter expert Dexter, who also happens to be a psychopathic vigilante serial killer.

I was just thinking about the French animated film "Fear(s) of the Dark" yesterday, wondering when I'd hear the next piece of news on it. Well, here's a new clip to feast your eyes on. According to the link, "Fear(s)" is actually in a limited theatrical release in the US as we speak. Anyone see it playing near them?

Here's a clip from the "Friday the 13th" remake, played at last night's Spike Scream Awards. This is literally the first thing I've seen from the Friday redux... I have to know what you guys think, yay or nay? I'm not sure how I feel about the original music being used. Didn't seem to jive very well with the super slick cinematography. Leave your thoughts in the comments.

In Real People News:

Miss Louisiana arrested for a good old fashioned "dine and dash". What, you mean someone with a prestigious a title as hers isn't afforded free meals at Denny's? What kind of crown is that anyways?

I have to admit, this supposed footage of a UFO taken in Turkey over the summer is pretty fascinating. What can I say, I'm a sucker for a good alien sighting.

On this day in history:

1934: Notorious bank robber Pretty Boy Floyd dies of multiple gunshot wounds in the back, after a shootout with the FBI at the Conkle Farm in East Liverpool, Ohio.

Well, they didn't show a lot from the remake, but from what I saw I wasn't disappointed. Not really enough to be excited about yet though. So far, looks on par for a TCM level remake which isn't bad. From what was show, it looks like Jason has been upgraded a bit in the speed department from his normal slow and lumbering self.

I think they showed that same clip at comicon over the summer? I remember at least part of it. Was there more shown during the Spike awards? What else did you see?

"I like it when they lie still like that."

Yeah that is the clip they showed at comic com but cleaned up and with BG music. When I saw it back then I thought it looked good and I still feel that way. Am I overly excited to see the movie, not really. I remember how good the Halloween stuff coming from Rob looked and I was getting hyped for that and that turned out to be a piece of shit. So I'm holding back on getting hyped for this one. Oh and the music sounded fine in the trailer. If it weren't there could you imagine the shit storm that would develop?

Really? You thought that looked good? I guess I was already turned off from the bad script reviews and interviews that Zombie had did, which made it clear he completely didn't get Halloween.

That said, can anyone image what this remake would have been like if Tarantino had actually agreed to do it?

"I like it when they lie still like that."

The still photo's from the set did look good but when the first trailer hit I was not impressed. After that I saw that was going to be a disaster.

Tarantino doing F13? Eh..I don't know how good that would have been (but not because I don't like him because I love Tarantino's movies).

Yeah, I don't think it would have been very good but it certainly would have been interesting to see. Taratino has a very idiosyncratic style and it would have been fascinating to see it applied to a property not his own. Would it have ended up being a slasher film pastiche similar in style to Kill Bill or would it have been closer to Scream? I have no idea but I'd be curious to find out.

"I like it when they lie still like that."

Yeah that was the one part that worried me a bit. Jason doesn't run, and they had this guy jumping in the air and crap. Who knows though, part of me really wants to like this movie just because I'm a big Jason fan. Part of me is worried we're looking at another crappy remake.

Best part was my wife didn't even watch the TV she just watched me watching it to see if I was going to flip out or something haha. If this movie blows I'm going to have to explain that I got this giant Jason mask tattoo before the crappy remake came out.

The way I see it....with the quality of some of the sequels, the remake can't be that bad!

The clip basically showed some dude with a white man's fro and a chick in the old abandoned Vorhees house, then they get attacked, then it cuts to Jason jumping in the air and smacking some chick with a machete.

And not to open the Jason 'zombie or not' debate, but I've never seen him as a zombie, so I'm okay with him moving a lot faster. Fits in with the vengeance thing he's got going anyways.

If its meant to be along the lines of an early entry in the franchise then I can buy him moving fast as he was just a fucked up dude till part 6. (When he becomes a zombie ;) )

Ya, that's true. I was actually on board with this remake until today. Something about that clip is just sitting with me wrong.

And it did play at Comic Con, but I had avoided it since it was a shitty cam version. Not that this one is any better, but I finally decided it was time to watch it.

I'm going to go out on a limb right now and say the "My Bloody Valentine" remake is going to be lightyears better than this. Plus, it's in 3D!

Yeah, the more I see about that the more excited I am.

It's weird, I don't get why Friday the 13th caught on as a series and MBV didn't. Most of the early F13th films are terrible, no better than MBV really. Also, I'd say that the Gas mask is much creepier and iconic than the hockey mask.

"I like it when they lie still like that."

Most likely I'll love this no matter how bad it is. Hell I thought Jason X kicked ass and Freddy Vs. Jason was awesome.

My wife doesn't let me choose the movie's we go see to often anymore.

Jason X was great until they brought in Super Shredder, er, I mean Jason.
And I definately agree on F vs J, its the only film Ive ever seen repeatedly at the cinema, I think I saw it 4 or 5 times.

Yeah it was a bit of a stretch, I enjoyed it though. To me the part where he is in the VR chamber and starting beating the girls in the sleeping bag against the tree was worth the price of the ticket.

Yah, I think beating the girls against the tree was quite possibly one of Jason's best kills in the entire series!

That's definitely the most iconic kill from the series. The background on it is really interesting too. The kick at the end was all Hodder's doing. He was frustrated because they had weighted the bag down too much and he couldn't get it to swing the way he wanted.

Grace isn't directed by Adam Green, it's directed by Paul Solet. He shot a short fundraising version a couple years ago. You might be getting confused because my friend Adam Barnick did all the documentary work on both the short and the feature.

Couldn't get the youtube embed to work so here's the links to Adam's EPK for the short as well as the teaser for the short:

"I like it when they lie still like that."

Just corrected it. Not sure how I missed that one... must have been reading too fast this morning.

Half the time I go back and read the comments I write in the morning and realize I wrote the wrong words or left things out so I totally get it.

I just got scared for a second because I thought they took the film away from Paul. It's his baby. He wrote, directed and fundraised the whole damn thing. I wasn't that impressed by the short but as an Indie filmmaker I'd hate to see someone's project taken from them after all that.

"I like it when they lie still like that."

I mean not in the early films obviously, but you did see Part VI where he had maggots in his head, right? He's clearly a "zombie" in every film after that.

And to be honest, I don't give a shit if he's a zombie or not, it just doesn't seem right to see him running. It's like the modern day "exxxtreme" version of Jason. I'm guessing there's going to be a product tie in where we find out he gets his power from Amped Energy Drink(TM)

I guess it depends more on your definition of zombie. I mean, he's certainly undead after VI but he doesn't really met most of the requirements to be considered a modern zombie. There's no people eating, brains or otherwise, and he's certainly smarter than your average zombie.

In an interview with the writers, they said they had him run because they wanted to make him more like a hunter, aggressive and mobile. I figure if you're remaking something legitimately, as opposed to just taking the name or making an almost carbon copy, you're allowed to take creative license with things like that.

Out of curiousity, did you hate the fast moving zombies in the Dawn of the Dead remake?

"I like it when they lie still like that."

Haha, I knew that would open up a can of worms.

There's been an ongoing debate for like...a year with Mail Order Zombie Podcast and the Obscure 80's Podcast over the 'zombie vs. not zombie' status of Jason.

Yes, he was undead and had maggots in his head. But, he wasn't running around trying to eat brains, he wasn't running around mindless either. He had a clearly defined agenda; REVENGE! Zombies are supposed to be completely mindless with nothing but a base instinct to feed.

Yeah, plus the subtext, what they represent, are totally different.

"I like it when they lie still like that."

With Casey on this one. Not to mention he is Jason, not a Zombie. He's F'in Jason. Zombies don't use Machetes and they don't stick to killing campers and being awesome. Plus... he's Freakin Jason!

But, if you go from the original Dawn definaition of zombies, they revert back to what they found familiar, and Jason killed people that went to Crystal Lake when he was alive, ao like the zombies returning to the mall, he returned to killing people.

www.myspace.com/devil2pay

Eat brains then?

And I have a meeting in 5, how the hell am i going to keep up with this crap?!

Yeah, I suppose he should eat people really. Although dont zombies only really eat brains in the 'Return Of The Living Dead' series?

www.myspace.com/devil2pay

What are we becoming?

When I said Zombie, I in NO WAY mean the traditional canonical definition of what a zombie is. I just meant that he was undead. Casey's original post basically suggested that he wasn't "undead" at all, when clearly he was. I'm sorry I used the word Zombie.... lol.

I suggested that he wasn't a 'zombie' in the shambling braaaaains sense.

Except you were saying that to explain why you thought it was okay for him to run. Last time I checked, the Undead aren't particularly fast sprinters. Ultimately it's semantics.

Seriously though, can we stop this madness? I'm already dreading having to recount this on the next podcast's "This Week in Bloody Good Horror... lol.
