Horror Headlines: Thursday February 12th, 2009

"The Gate 3D" remake is being directed by Alex Winters, AKA "the other guy" from "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure". He's also, as we discussed on the podcast recently, the director of the pretty sweet cult flick "Freaked". I defy you to find a wackier story this week... or maybe ever.

Samuel Bayer, music video director known for such videos as "Smells Like Teen Spirit" by Nirvana, has been picked to direct Platinum Dunes remake of "Nightmare on Elm St." I'm honestly not sure what to think about this, but I'm sure more news will come out soon enough.

John Malkovich will play the villain in the "Jonah Hex" adaptation. There's some awesome news to wash down all the remake stuff I just told you.

Brea Grant from "Heroes" has signed on to Rob Zombie's Halloween sequel. She'll play Laurie Strode's co-worker at "Uncle Meat's Jave Hole". Wow, is there anyone more adept at subtlety than Rob?

Here are some hi-res pics from "Mutant Chronicles" starring Thomas Jane, which debuts on HDNET Video On Demand on March 24th, 2009, with a very limited theatrical release to follow.

In Real People News:

Would you drink a beverage made with cow-piss? The marketers assure us not to worry, "it won't smell like urine and will be tasty too". Not to state the obvious here but... then why the urine?

Getting engaged to this Drew Peterson guy seems like an awful elaborate way to kill yourself. Why not just try a gun? I hear there are lots of sales going on right now.

Have you ever wondered what would happen if you stuck an air rifle up someone's ass and pulled the trigger? Well wonder no more, it would cause their intestines to explode. Oh, and you'll also be charged with murder.

On this day in history:

1789: Ethan Allen dies in a drunken sleigh accident while crossing the frozen Lake Champlain, reminiscing with friends and rye. Much of the circumstance remains a mystery.
