McAvoy and Radcliffe star in "Victor Frankenstein"

New "Victor Frankenstein" Trailer Puts a Dashing New Face on an Old Tale

Victor Frankenstein isn’t your mom and pop’s Frankenstein story, a point the folks who put together the film’s new trailer go to great, almost tedious lengths to hammer home. In this version, our protagonists, the titular doctor and his humble assistant, Igor, are both devilishly handsome and are prone to fits of witty-banter and action-movie spectacle. All of which are highlighted exhaustively by the trailer.

Another key difference in this version from Frankenstein tales of old? Igor (played by Daniel Radcliffe) is our main character and the events are depicted from his point of view. The trailer positions Igor as the more level-headed of the pair. Initially he seems excited by their work. However, as things get more dangerous and mad scientist-y, he starts questioning the good doctor's (James McAvoy) methods.

Aside from those alterations, the trailer follows along the expected course. Victor and Igor are experimenting with reanimating dead tissue. They get bolder in their experiments, they rob a few graves and catch the attention of the local police. Pretty soon they've got a reanimated monster on their hands which they are unable to control. Also, at a certain point, someone announces “It’s alive.”

The film is based off a script by Max Landis (of Chronicle fame) and was directed by Paul McGuigan (of Push fame). In case you're eagerly awaiting the next installment of the “Universal Monster Cinematic Universe,” be warned, this isn't it. It's a 20th Century Fox release which just so happens to feature Frankenstein. Victor Frankenstein hits theaters on Nov. 25.
