James Wan is Back With "The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Poltergiest" (Trailer)

Three years ago; James Wan had a massive hit with The Conjuring grossing almost one hundred and thirty-eight million dollars on a twenty-thousand dollar budget. This made it inevitable that we were going to get a slew of these movies until they become completely unprofitable, even if they were only produced by Wan. Sure, we had Annabelle in 2014, but what makes this different is that this is the next entry directed by James Wan:

This trailer cements that the surtitle The Conjuring is going to be the ongoing adventures of the Warrens, informing us immediately that it is 1977, three years after the events of the original movie. Here we have left New England for the old one as we are in Enfield, London.  Lorraine Warren (Vera Farmiga) is conferring with a little girl who lets her and the audience know that she is being used by an entity, making her hear and see things and telling her that it wants to hurt Lorraine. We are then treated to a multitude of images showing crashing tables, yelling, and cross turning ensuring that we are going to see all sorts of spooky mayhem in this film.

In typical Wan style we also have a shot of a spinning ceiling projector spookily click clacking away, though it’s not just this use of a simple child’s toy to illicit terror that heralds a return to form, this trailer is dripping with the style that made the first film such a successful horror movie. This is perhaps the most important aspect of this trailer.

After leaving horror to direct Furious 7 many thought we may never see James Wan back in the director chair for horror, especially with the impending specter of Aquaman. However, even with the future of DC universe movies looming, James Wan seems dedicated to creating a universe of mainstream horror movies with solid acting and atmosphere. However you feel about the dubious credentials of The Warrens, this is all good news for horror fans.
