eli roth

Oh, wait...here's something:

Eli Roth says that his slasher parody/homage “Thanksgiving” is still a “very real possibility” . YAWN, WANK. Do we, really as a collective of genre fans, really even care about announcements like this anymore? Where's “Trailer Park”, Eli? How's “Cell” coming along?? Here's my new rule: I refuse to get excited about anything, ever, until I see a trailer or, at the very least, a poster with a hard 'n' fast date.

You want some real news? How about that the novelization of the movie “Black Devil Doll” is out! Why is this so important? Because I wrote the introduction! Is this probably the most important book of our generation, if any generation? I would have to go out on a limb and say YES. Yes, it is. So don't be a racist and order a copy now! Order two!

Wes Craven expects a "Scream 4" script by August for him to peruse, although he's told the Weinstein's that he's not necessarily interested in directing, a gig which they would like him to take. At this point he's not even sure what the film's about, but writer Kevin Williamson has a whole new trilogy in mind, with Courtney Cox and David Arquette reprising their roles from the original series.

Eli Roth is considering directing the remake of "Funhouse". The funny thing is, he goes on and on about what he thinks was wrong with the first film and could be corrected in a remake, and I'm pretty sure he's talking about all the parts of that film I actually liked! Oh, Eli. Will our love/hate bromance ever stop?

In New York City and want to see some Japanese weirdness? Well here you go, on Friday, June 26th you can take in a screening of "Vampire Girl vs Frankenstein Girl" at the New York Asian Film Festival. I'm not making any promises, but there is a hot Japanese school girl on the poster art, so at least they know their audience.

FOX isn't crazy about handing the reigns of the "Alien" franchise over to a rookie director (Carl Erick Rinsch), one who was hand-picked by Ridley Scott himself. Instead, rumor has it that they're trying to get Scott to commit to directing, which he hasn't seemed interested in up until this point. It's kind of funny they worry about the franchise NOW, after two pretty mediocre "Aliens vs Predator" films.

Next up on the remake block: The 1974 Hammer flick "The Legend of the 8 Golden Vampires". Any Hammer fans out there want to give their impressions of the original?

Paul Verhoeven to direct an adaptation of the Kathryn Mackel novel "The Surrogate", about a child surrogacy candidate who turns out to be a nightmare for the prospective parents.

Eli Roth's big budget Scifi film he's planning will be called "Endangered Species". That's the same project he's hoping to tack a shoot for "Thanksgiving" onto the end of... just to keep you up to speed.

Creepy orphans everywhere are pissed off about the trailer for "Orphan", and claim that it reinforces longstanding stereotypes about orphans... which are apparently that they're creepy ghosts that will kill you? Ya, I can totally see why they're pissed off.

"Alien" prequel confirmed, rather than the "sequel" rumors that we had been hearing. If it has to happen, I suppose this is one of the least offensive ways it can go down. Plus, don't forget that the original director, Ridley Scott, is exec producing and handpicked the director.

Sony Screengems begins development on "Quarantine 2". They're looking for a completely original spin on any sequel ideas, since their remake was practically a shot for shot redo of the Spanish film "[REC]". No mention of the Dowdle Bro's names at this point, but we'll keep you informed.

Rumor has it that FOX Atomic, Fox's genre wing responsible for pictures such as "The Hills Have Eyes 2", "28 Weeks Later" and "Turistas", will be shut down next week. No word on how this may affect "Jennifer's Body", Diablo Cody's new film which was produced under the banner.

"True Blood" Season 2 teaser poster. And here I am continuing to report on it despite our readers telling me they're not interested. Yes, I am dense. It's also a slow news day, so bear with me.

Eli Roth's out talking more about "Thanksgiving" after the announcement last week that he would like to piggyback it onto a bigger budget film of his. This time he says he's writing it with his longtime friend Jeff Rendell, who will also play "The Pilgrim".

According to Patrick Lussier, there will be no "My Bloody Valentine 3D" sequel. That comes from Lions Gate, who were surprised at the film's BO success but not too jazzed about greenlighting a second go-round. The film is plenty open-ended for them to have done one, but apparently they're calling it a day with this potential franchise. "MBV3D" hits DVD and Blu-ray May 19th.
