What makes Dethklok unique among gimmick bands (which is not an insult, merely a fact,) is that the “band” plays the role totally straight. Most metal fans’ exposure to the blend of comedy and metal comes through bands like GWAR or Haunted Garage, who make no secret of their over-the-top motives. Even the mighty Spinal Tap played up their persona, skillfully reveling in and mocking the signature characteristics of metal.

He is the creator of beloved, fan-favorite shows like “Home Movies” and “Metalocalypse.” He is the man behind the phenomenon that is Dethklok, whom legions of fans dutifully keep up with and flock to their shows. He is the man in charge of the upcoming album “Galaktikon,” and probably has his hands full with six or seven others things, too. Mere mortals call him Brendon Small, and he and I had to chance to sit down and talk about a number of subjects, including music, career paths, television shows and trends, Iron Maiden and of course, horror.

If I know anything about lovers of Metal-related irony, it's that they absolutely never get sick of it. Nothing proves this more than Adult Swim's "Metalocalypse." Not content to let "Brutal Legend" steal their thunder in the Metal game genre, Konami and Frozen Codebase have unleashed a pre-alpha build of "Metalocalypse: Dethgame" upon the world of SDCC.
