George Carlin, More Than the Sum of his Words

George Carlin has been dead for almost two weeks now, and no one has mentioned it here on the site. I have wanted to since the day I heard the news, but things kept getting in my way and I wasn't able to. Luckily for me, this pre-Holiday week at work is starting to grind to a halt so I've found myself with some free time to speak my piece.

I'm sure by now you've all been refreshed on why exactly Carlin is a god among Comedians, and the way that he bucked the system in the 60's by essentially "joining" the counter culture. So I figured I'd just share a personal anecdote.

Pogo - Alice

Want to know what happens with a little bit of talent, some computer software a whole lot of time on your hands? You get the internet artist calling himself 'Pogo' (I think. He may or may not call himself Faggotron too) who's made an electronic song and video, using nothing but sounds from Disney's "Alice in Wonderland".

You like it? He's got more at Last.fm.

And while you're over at last.fm, want a friend? Hit me up

Slate on "Why We Need Movie Critics"

It won't surprise anyone around these parts that I get a warm, fuzzy feeling inside when folks start talking about box office statistics. If someone busts out a chart, well then they've officially got my attention. All of which is why Erick Lundegaard has just entered the rarified air of Schnaars-man-crush.

Blood Bowl Teaser Trailer

Upon hearing the title of this game and watching the first 20 or so seconds of this trailer (counting the 10 seconds of logo bullshit) I thought to myself "mutant league football on a next gen system, finally!" and then I read this silliness...

Horror Hound Issue #12 On Stands Now

After the last issue inexplicably didn't feature any of my writing (seriously, what was the deal with that?) Issue #12 of Horror Hound Magazine comes back with a vengeance, hitting stands today (Wednesday) and featuring three pieces of my writing. First off, the entire issue is one big tribute to the "Halloween" series (save for part III, which had it's own retrospective a few issues ago).

Hancock Mini Review

Last night I found myself in attendance for a pre-screening for Will Smith's latest flick, "Hancock". As I head into this mini write up, I want to make a point; I went into "Hancock" with little to no prior knowledge or expectations. The trailers have been floating about out there for awhile, I've watched them once or twice, but honestly I never paid much attention.

Blogger Wanted

I mentioned this on Episode 33 of our Podcast this week, but I wanted to reiterate to those who may not be listening (or just haven't heard it yet).

Anyhoo, we're looking for a few good bloggers. Specifically, we would love WOMEN bloggers, but I'm willing to entertain any applicants.

Box Office Boner - Wall-E

After months of listening to Jon blab about "THE BOX" on the Podcast, I've taken it upon myself to occasionally go out of my way to see at least one blockbuster a month and report back to the Bloody Good Horror nerd cave about whether or not it in fact deserves its accolades. Stay tuned for more!

Box Office Special - Halfway Home

This weekend was the 26th out of 52 for 2008. And now that we're halfway to 2009, it's time to make some observations about the slate of horror films that have been offered up thus far.
