Burton's "Alice..." Stills are Giving me Nightmares

Even if you hadn't heard about the movie previously, would you really blink if I told you that Tim Burton is directing a re-imagination of "Alice in Wonderland" with Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter in starring roles? Of course you wouldn't. Although many people are getting sick of Burton's creepy power couple, it seems that he's got a couple of tricks up his sleeve to keep things fresh, mainly using CGI to augment and distort live action, a technique which has come into use recently with action films, but hasn't been stretched (no pun intended) to this level before.

"Magic: The Gathering..." (XBLA) Mini-Review

When I was in fourth grade, my parents had a treehouse built for me for my birthday. When it was finally finished, I didn't pretend it was a pirate ship or a secret clubhouse. I grabbed my four giant boxes of cards for Magic: The Gathering, hauled them up the rickety ladder, and proceeded to play with Eric and one of his friends for hours. This was a continuing trend for quite a while, until I foolishly sold my cards to my cousin for a meager $30. That was almost 15 years ago. These days I can legally drink, have sex pretty frequently, and fancy myself to be quite the fun guy.

Banned "Left 4 Dead 2" Cover Isn't Very Exciting

If "Left 4 Dead 2" is anything, it will be bloody, violent, and a hell of a lot of fun. With all of the hooplah about its "rushed" release, I would have thought that the cover of the game would be the least of everyone's concern. Apparently, I was wrong.

At Valve's booth you saw one or two instances of the hand image shown in this picture of Chet Faliszeck, and the ring and pinky fingers have been completely bitten off. That's an image Valve claims the ESRB wouldn't allow for future marketing materials.

Beer, Horror Screenings, and Beautiful Posters

We get requests to promo stuff pretty often, which are usually met with a healthy dose of snarky indifference. However, we are occasionally surprised with something really cool, and we got a tip from the Alamo Drafthouse in Austin Texas about some awesome posters for upcoming film screenings (above and left). The "Night of the Creeps" screening will also apparently be included in the DVD extras for the upcoming release of that film, so if you're in the area, be sure to check that out.

"Brutal Legend" Dumps Dio for Tim Curry

I haven't spoken much about the upcoming metal-infused adventure game "Brütal Legend" starring Jack Black, mostly because I think Metalocalypse took metal irony, perfected it, and then beat it to death. However, with cameos from the likes of Ozzy Ozbourne and Rob Halford, 'Legend' should be an entertaining, if not very fun game. Up until recently, that fun included the vocal talent of one Ronnie James Dio (Black Sabbath, Rainbow, etc.), but that is no longer.

Guess What Kind of Game "Zombie Apocalypse" Is

After a run-through of "Wolfenstein 3D" on my Xbox 360 the other day, I had a discussion with a friend about how games that involve killing Nazi's will never get old. I was thinking the same thing about zombie games too, but there have been so many lately that I'm feeling pretty close to zombie game burnout. When I heard about "Zombie Apocalypse," the top-down, "Smash TV" style zombie shooter for XBLA and PSN, I can't say that I was all that excited, but this gameplay footage is kind of neat.

Friday Fun - Jigsaw's Bitchin Dance Moves

We've often wondered around these parts whether "Saw" was going to be this generation's "Friday the 13th," and in the discussion mentioned the iconic nature of the Jigsaw character. I had by doubts, but after recently stumbling upon this video and marveling at how many "related" videos there are, I may change my tune.

Does the "Left 4 Dead 2" Boycott Matter?

For days, I've been reading various posts about the apparent 'boycott' of "Left 4 Dead 2," the recently announced sequel to Valve's popular zombie blasting FPS. Although I was positive about the news, throngs of angry fans voiced their opinions to the contrary. Primarily, they were angry about the fact that Valve had promised to continually provide additional content for the original "Left 4 Dead," something that they are known for as a publisher.

Shaun Luu Horror Fest is This Weekend!

I've mentioned the fest a handful of times on the podcast but just now realized that I have yet to post any pertinent information! Shaun Luu Horror Fest is an annual two-day horror/music festival that takes place in Syracuse, featuring one day of awesome movies, and another day of awesome hardcore and metal bands.

Man Arrested Over Resident Evil Cosplay

Being the first person to arrive at a party is always awkward. Being the first person to arrive in costume to a "zombie crawl," and getting arrested because people think you're going to shoot them is, well, REALLY awkward.

Wearing all black, knee pads, a knife, grenade, a gas mask, and carrying what looked to be a machine gun, he walked into the Metro Clothing store Friday evening on Capitol Hill, which was sponsoring the zombie crawl to promote the Crypticon Horror Convention at the Seattle Center next weekend.
