Horror Writer David Wellington's "30 Stories in 30 Days" Over at DailyLit

BGH reader and horror author David Wellington ("Monster Island", "Frostbite", "13 Bullets") is posting 30 stories in 30 days over at DailyLit. He began September 22, so there are already 6 stories up. I've enjoyed the first few, and look forward to more. These stories are short, so you only need to steal 10-20 minutes or so out of your busy day. Scroll through them with the "Next" button at the bottom of the page.

Werner Herzog's Rogue Film School

Filmmaker and perennial badass Werner Herzog has started a series of 3-day workshop/seminars he's calling "Rogue Film School." The first one is in Los Angeles January 8-10, 2010, with more planned for other cities on the East Coast and the Midwest in the near future.

Here's a few choice quotes from the site:

Stephanie Meyer's "The Host" Adapted by Gattaca Director

What just happened to me must be one of the perils of writing for a horror website... I just read (well, skimmed) someone's blog entry - er, on what appeared to be an industry news site - breaking down point-by-point why Stephanie Meyer is a good writer, using the first paragraph of "New Moon." I threw up in my mouth.

"Growth" Trailer and first two minutes

I have a treat for you - just in time for lunch on the East Coast! It's the trailer and first two minutes of "Growth", a film about parasitic slugs that make you smart, strong and horny - before they kill you... or something. Here's the synopsis:

Trailer for promising no-budget "Patrol Men"

This movie's gotten a bit of press on very little info. From what I can piece together, it's a very low or 'zero-budget' British SF/Horror film that possibly came out this month - although what 'came out' means in this context I'm not sure. The trailer is totally disorienting in a great way. The film seems to hearken to 60's and 70's films that mixed the radical ideology of the time with genre madness.

Here's the summary from the film's FaceBook Page - scroll past for the trailer:

Joe Lynch has a new "Body Count" on G4TV

No, I'm not talking about Ice-T's metal band... The horror director and genre fan Joe Lynch's "Body Count" segment continues to serve up the horror recommendations on G4TV. The episode below has him being alliterative and pun-ny, and is heavy on the gore recommendations. Fans who have exhausted the Troma catalog, listen up!

Adam Green and Joe Lynch are "American Douchebags in London"

Horror directors Adam Green ("Hatchet") and Joe Lynch ("Wrong Turn 2") have once again commemorated their trip to London's Frightfest in a series of short films paying homage to favorite horror movies.

The films are pretty funny, although you'll need Flash to see them.

"House of the Devil" Red Band Trailer

The only things I caught in this red-band trailer for "House of the Devil" that weren't in the first trailer we saw some months ago are all the good press quotes, but it's worth seeing this stuff again. This movie looks awesome, a real throwback (in the best sense) to the supernatural horror that was the genre staple in the 60s and 70s until slashers took over. I know where I'll be on Halloween!

"The 4th Reich" Heading Towards Production

In a time when our real life villains seem amorphous, impersonal, and complicated, many directors are turning to the Nazis as go-to, easily readable manifestations of evil. Even the horror genre is turning to Nazis as a trend villain, specifically Nazi Zombies. While this year's "Dead Snow" put the Nazi Zombies in the present day and played it for laughs, "The Fourth Reich", which enters production later this year, looks like a more straight ahead horror piece and is set in war-torn Europe during WWII. Here's the synopsis:

"Halloween" in 30 seconds re-enacted by bunnies!

The 30-Second Remakes by Bunnies internet meme is all grown up, with "seasons" on NetFlix Instant and everything. (Remember, folks - sign up for NetFlix through us!) The question remains...can they do a better Halloween remake than goth-rocker turned Hollywood egomaniac Rob Zombie? Even further, can the Bunnies do a Halloween reboot that the BGH crew will like?
I think they can!
