2009 Halloween Horror Nights Short Film Winner

"Bedfellows", a short film directed by Drew Daywalt, is the winner of this year's "Halloween Horror Nights Short Film Competition." It's simple and I think that is how it succeeds, playing on everyone's fears of waking up in the middle of the night and things not being just right.

"Vampire Party" Trailer

In lieu of the "A Nightmare on Elm St." trailer, finding something blog worthy is difficult, so I give you something light, fluffy, and French. The trailer for "Vampire Party" while entirely in French, gives you a good idea of the level of ridiculousness that will permeate this film. It has a schlocky Vincent Price horror comedy feel that I love.

But truthfully, it doesn't do it any justice. For a better clip, Check this out:

Cronenberg to remake "The Fly"

News came yesterday that David Cronenberg is said to be returning to his masterpiece "The Fly" in hopes of remaking it. Many websites are comparing Cronenberg's remake of "The Fly" to Haneke's remake of his own "Funny Games," but even then, Haneke was remaking his film so that it would reach a larger audience. What interests me the most about this news is that Cronenberg just directed "The Fly" as an opera, which seems odd to me that he would want to return to it again in film.

I've included a vignette from the opera above, they even have the arm wrestling scene!

Nightmare trailer coming soon

I unfortunately do not have the trailer for "A Nightmare on Elm St." just yet, but there are whispers that a teaser trailer will front "Zombieland" on October 2nd, a movie that most genre fans won't have to go out of their way to see. I'm just glad it's not attached to a "Saw" film.

The Elm Street trailer will debut online around the same time. Producer Brad Fuller tweeted yesterday that:

Sometimes teasers/trailers can be found on the internet before they end up in theaters.

Scare With A Care at Mansion of Terror

Down here in Texas, we will probably have to wait until late October before we start feeling the awesomeness that is Autumn, but thankfully, we don't have to wait for Halloween. It's haunted house season ya'll!

With temperatures down and wallets tight, why not get the best scare for your buck? Located in Texas between Round Rock and North Austin, "Mansion of Terror" is rated #1 in the nation by Lionsgate films.

"Never Sleep Again:The Elm Street Legacy" Teaser Trailer

The trinity is complete. Now that Michael and Jason have been given another go in the remake realm, it's Freddy's turn and here to taunt and titillate is a teaser for a Nightmare on Elm Street documentary "Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy."

Daniel Farrands, director of the Friday the 13th documentary "His Name was Jason: 30 Years of Friday the 13th" returns to bring us "Never Sleep Again:The Elm Street Legacy" which promises to be a thorough look at Freddy's history.

This Must be the Place for American Psycho

Miles Fisher, an actor who has appeared in television shows such as MadMen and Gossip Girl is now venturing into music with his take on The Talking Heads most romantic song, "This Must Be the Place." A song that would not seem to suit "American Psycho" so well. But that assumption would be wrong, because Fisher nails so many of "American Psycho's" best scenes to this tune that I now won't be able to think of anything remotely romantic while listening to it... now it's more like the thought of driving an axe into someone's skull. Let's just say, it definitely adds depth. har har.

Saunders Takes a Stab at "AntiChrist" Poster

The designer of movie posters for films such as "Dying Breed," "Surveillance," "Martyrs," and the short film "Spider" has created a poster for Lars Von Trier's much anticipated "AntiChrist."

Edgar Allan Poe's digital collection

Being one of the only horror writers still taught in classrooms, Edgar Allan Poe is the gateway for many people into the horror genre. I remember the first time I heard "The Tell-Tale Heart" in my 5th grade classroom, I was immediately sucked into the world of creepy dead things, ordering everything related to murder and ghosts in the scholastic magazines sent home and asking my mother if I could rent Vincent Price movies at the local video store.

"Aids is a Mass Murderer" and so is Hitler

To promote World AIDS Day, December 1, a German AIDS awareness group, regenbogen e.v., which translates to mean "Rainbow" has put together a racy ad to grab people's attention and scare people into wearing condoms.

The commerical depicts a couple engaging in some hot foreplay. The commerical is filmed in the same vein as any perfume ad with skantily clad people rolling around half naked, but towards the end it is revealed that this commerical is different, becuase the male patron is actually Hitler. "AIDS is a Mass Murderer" is then flashed up on screen soon afterwards.
