The October Challenge!
Submitted by Casey on Wed, 10/01/2008 - 20:23.
Today is October 1st and you know what that means; it's Halloween season! As Andy Williams once said, "It's the most wonderful time of the year!" Cool temperatures, changing leaves, bonfires and pumpkin beer, who needs Christmas when we got October!
At any rate, this year I'm taking on 'the Challenge': 31 Horror Flicks in 31 Days! And you get to come along for the ride!
Check back every Friday afternoon for a recap of the week's flicks to keep tabs on if I've survived the challenge! Each Friday I'll post capsule reviews of each flick, so it should be fun!
Wish me luck!
The first flick of the challenge was: Argento's "Mother of Tears"!
Capsule review up on Friday!

FALL
The only time of year I wish I was back in NY is right now. "Fall" in South Florida means you can sometimes wear pants outside without being overwhelmed by the ball sweat. Although you still get the requisite hay-rides and haunted houses, but I must say it's hella weird when your haunted house is surrounded by palm trees.
Excited to follow along with your challenge though, looking forward to the first post.
Fall in NY
I hear ya man, I'll meet you at the Double M Western store for the Haunted Hay ride. It's pretty cool down here around NYC/NJ but it isn't the same. We've managed to find a few cool haunted houses though, the best being one we went to a few years back around the Nyack area where they actually let you drive a golf cart on the side of a cliff while people chase you in the dark. It may also be one of the most unsafe things I've ever been a part of.
HAHA
That sounds amazing, although I'm sure I'd be the first one to drive that sucker off the ledge.
The Double M Western hayride was definitely one of the greatest Halloween experiences I've ever had. Always meant to go back but never wanted to wait in line (you've actually had to make reservations the last few years).
There's this one house near downtown West Palm that got all decked out last year for Halloween. It was wild, here we are three blocks from the ocean, with this ratty old beach bum place, and it's totally Halloween'd out... very surreral. I was so fascinated with this place, but considering the fact that it's in an area where I don't like stopping for red lights, let alone getting out of my car, I wasn't about to venture up to the door.
Maybe if I get brave I'll do a driveby and try to snap a pic for you guys.
Bayville Scream Park
We talked about this stuff a few weeks back but the wife and I finally got out to a Haunted House last night. out on Long Island. This place was pretty awesome but a little expensive. I did learn one amazing fact. If you go to something like this with two of your buddies and your wife it's just best to except that fact that you're going to spend the night watching people try to frighten the shit out of your wife. Pretty much it seems like the people working at these places just assume they can get a scream out of the female in the group. Would be pretty sexist if they weren't 100% right and it was really really funny to watch.

People just dont get into
People just dont get into the spirit as much over here, I dont think Ive ever seen a house decorated for Halloween, and the only thing we used to do (visit Pendle Hill supposed home of the Pendle Witches) has now basically been turned into a fairground with zero seasonal decor.
Its the same with Christmas, you guys have some crazy decorations with people going all out. Over here you occasionally get a tree with some lights in it.

Spirit
Yah, the people into the spirit here in the states gets smaller every year. Our house is one of the few in the neighborhood that goes all out.
I'm gonna keep the torch going though! The daughter and I are going trick or treating as Shaggy & Scooby!
