Horror Icon 2D Fighting Game!

Prepare to soil your pants... like, literally. Go grab some paper towels and put them underneath your ass because you're going to be thankful you did after you watch this video:

It's called "Terrordrome: Rise of the Boogeymen". And the greatest thing about it? It's all real. A group of professional computer nerds have been making the game pro-bono in their spare time, and intend to release it for free to the masses some time in 2008. Right now you can download the Demo for your PC here as well as some cool desktops they made with their 3D rendered characters, and share some of your own fan-inspired material.

Part of me thinks even if they're not taking money that this will be taken down sooner rather than later, so you should go grab that demo now. I haven't had a chance to play it b/c it's a PC exclusive and I'm a Mac nerd, and my PC at work won't let me install stuff on it. I'm so intrigued by that trailer and the site though that I'm digging up my old Windows computer tonight and giving that shit a spin. All of my favorite horror icons in a Mortal Kombat-esque 2D fighter? Where can you go wrong?

Somebody please for the love of God download this today and report back how the gameplay is. I must know!

Holy Shit! I actually had an idea for a game like this years ago but figured it impossible because of rights issues. Mine had more characters though like Pinhead and stuff but I mean this looks great. I hope it gets released. I'll be checking this out definately. I'll have to post this on our site too. Thanks. They say that they're using an engine like "Fighter Creator 2" or some shit like that. I was digging around the site last night but I'm too lazy to find it right now.

They do mention Mortal Kombat as an influence, but they also list a bunch of other games that they were basing it on. I just love the old school rendered quality it has. Very nice.

On a related note, anyone remember "Clay Fighters"? Ya, that's right.

That game was crazy back in the day, though incredibly unbalanced. I just remember cheaping everyone with that guy who was just a green strip of clay. Now Eternal Champions and Primal Rage were the shit.

I'd love to know they did this game though. It's definitely not motion captured like the old Mortal Kombats and the models are really detailed. It must have taken an insane amount of work, especially considering they're giving it away for free.

Yeah you could basically be The Blob and use his circular saw move constantly.
Ive got both Eternal Champions games for my old Megadrive/Genesis & CD, brutally hard but had some mad as hell environmental finishers.
Never got into Primal Rage though as it had a weird control system for moves.

Eternal Champion

I owned Eternal Champions when it first came out for the Genesis and I honestly don't think I beat it once. I could never defeat all three versions of the Eternal Champion. I'd get to the third version and he'd just beat my ass. But the finisher and environmental deaths made it all worth it.

Just downloaded it and had a quick go, its actually pretty good, although I cant figure out what the button are supposed to be, and I keep getting my ass handed to me by Michael Myers!!!

Some interesting characters on there too, apart from the demo ones theres gonna be Chucky, Candyman, Herbert West (Strange choice!) and what looks to be either Alice from RE or Selene from Underworld, its a chick with guns anyway.

I don't see Candyman on the site, am I missing something? If he is in that's awesome because I would go out on a limb and say he's one of my favorite slashers of all time. He may not have been in 60,000 sequels but 1 awesome movie was enough for me! Plus, I think the hook is cool as hell haha

Yeah, Ive had a bit more of a scan on the site for the move list, I also figured out that it doesnt use the classic Light to Hard Punch/Kick set up, so my initial button mapping wouldnt have worked properly anyways. Im going back for another game now I know some moves!!

It's interesting that they went off the most recent designs of the characters. I mean that's clearly Zombie's version of Michael Myers. Wonder how long they've been working on it in that case.

Works fine for me, but its so hard! I played about 4 games, and didn't win a single round! Leatherface looks the best, as he can lay bear traps anytime and anywhere he wants, which stun you.
Also, for Drunken Zombie theres a picture of Hellraiser on the main menu, so it looks like your dreams come true.
