Batgirl & "The Dark Knight"

Oh how the rumors are flying! As "The Dark Knight" draws closer, little bits and pieces of info keep popping up. Most of them I have absorbed with an air of quiet disinterest. Sure, I totally want to see this movie. I'm super excited about it. But trailers and posters and stills (oh my!) don't really do it for me. This does.

Yea! I love me some Batgirl! Granted what I gather from reading, she will only be like 5 or 6. But the mere thought that there may be a big screen incarnation of my favorite superhero heroine sends shivers down my spine! Don't think I'm glossing over Alicia Silverstone Batgirl. I just choose not to dwell on "Batman and Robin". Meh.

So, what does this "revelation" really mean? Well, nothing for now I suppose. It means that the rich tapestry of the Batman mythos is in good hands. But man! The thought of a Christopher Nolan Batgirl, that really makes this girls day.

Maybe

If you read all the way down you'll see that Nolan isn't exactly enthusiastic about adding any "sidekicks" to the mix any time soon. But then again, he's been so coy about everything else I guess you never know.

I agree with you though, the onslaught of clips / trailers / stills from this film has gone way over the line... which is why I haven't really reported on any of it for a while. I just want to see the damn thing already.

Batgirl would be cool

That would be sorta cool but I can see Oldham's point about not having any Robin or Batgirl in the next movie. But if there were a Batgirl I think Nolan could do it right.

And I can't wait to see Dark Knight on friday! ^_^

This is great

I started wondering about the Batgirl/Oracle stuff once I saw Gordon's daughter and the sonar bit. Perfect setup.

I don't know that I see a Nolan directed Batgirl in the future, but I could see a Nolan Produced Batgirl in the future.

Don't know much about Batgirl

I have to admit ignorance on the whole Batgirl front, so here's my question: could they spin a Batgirl film off (set in the future obviously) without bringing in Christian Bale/Batman? Or would that require a complete rewriting of the creation story?

Batgirl without Bale

I honestly think they could. They could spin it off from the scene at the end of DK with Batman & Joker inspiring her, and then writing in other news stories and events that helped her along the way.

Batgirl

Batgirl is Commissioner Gordon's Daughter, Barbara. She doesn't really have an origin. She was just inspired by Batman and so one day started dressing up like him and fighting crime. So you could do a spinoff without Bale just fine.

"I like it when they lie still like that."

Bat girl

You could do it, but I'm not sure anyone other than hardcore fans would really give a shit. You certainly wouldn't approach anywhere near even Batman Begins numbers.

That said, if they do a third film, having sidekicks in there would obviously be a huge mistake.

I think if anything, after seeing the film, that Nolan was just throwing in a nod to the comic. If you notice, you never even see the girl on screen, which I did think was particularly interesting.

all i wanted was a nod

I don't need some crazy spin off. I'm just glad the Bat-universe is being developed so well.

I demand many spinoffs...

I demand many spinoffs... each one crazier than the one before it!
