Patton Oswalt: Death Bed

If you only know Patton Oswalt from his stint on King of Queens or as the voice of Remy from Ratatouille, you should do yourself a favor and check out some of his stand-up. On his most recent comedy album Werewolves and Lollypops he talks about how his job as a screenwriter in Hollywood got harder with the DVD release of an obscure 70's horror film called Death Bed: The Bed That Eats.

I can see where Patton's coming from. Sometimes when I'm doing my duty as a genre fan and watching some spectacularly terrible cheesefest I have to remind myself that this movie didn't just pop into existence at the DVD factory, but that someone had to write it and direct it and think that at some level it was good enough that other people might want to see it. I think that's kind of why I like these type of movies- because quite often they're made by lunatics. Anyway, just to prove that it exists, here's a clip from Death Bed: The Bed That Steals Your Fried Chicken to tide you over until Eli Roth gets around to making Rape Stove. (NSFW for 70's boobies and a concept that makes no sense at all)

Death Bed

The best part about this movie on Blockbuster is the date on it isn't it's original writing but it's release date so it leads you to believe this came out in 2002. I'm a little sad I won't be surprised by the borderline 70's porn that I have coming in the mail.

This should be on it's way

This should be on it's way to my house for us to review for our show. Learned about it from this very Patton Oswald CD. Oswald rules.

Stuart Gordon

The scary thing is, there's another Deathbed flick from Stuart Gordon

Make me a sword

Because of his whole bit about how women should make men swords for engagement presents, I actually convinced my girlfriend to buy me a big screen TV when we get engaged. No foolsies.

Hmm...

That's a damn fine idea. My girl would get a ring a lot quicker if I knew there was a TV in it for me. Better start laying the groundwork for that now.

Lol

All that fucking buildup and you don't even see the bed kill the people. I have to say though, that guy sure knows how to work a titty.

I'm surprised no one's

I'm surprised no one's remade this yet. I mean the script basically writes itself.

"I like it when they lie still like that."

Turns out

Full Moon also put out "Deathbed" in 2002, the 1977 version is "Death Bed". I can imagine both are equally as good but the 2002 is pretty hard to watch. Weird thing is the DVD also has another movie called "Castle Freak" which is a little tricky to find. Only way I found it was when I converted the videos on the disc to iPod. So have fun with that useless fact.

Castle Freak is one of

Castle Freak is one of Stuart Gordon's better Lovecraft adaptions. Gotta love a movie about a monster that just wants to get laid.

LOL

yeah I hear ya, it took a turn there when I thought it was going to turn out the freak was just looking to be loved. Then he started biting nipples off and sort of squashed that whole idea.
