"Gamer" Kind of Turns me On

I'll be the first to admit that I'm not really an action movie guy. Yes, I loved "Star Trek" and "The Dark Night," but I treat most action flicks with the same indifference that I would a romantic comedy staring Dane Cook. The real standouts in the genre to me over the years have been the "Con Air"s of the bunch, who embraced the ridiculousness of the genre and exceeded everyone's standards for entertaining hyperbole. I have a feeling that the upcoming film "Gamer" might provide just the sort of action experience that I've been looking for.

Set in a future-world where humans can control other humans in mass-scale, multi-player online gaming environments, a star player (Gerard Butler, "300") from a game called "Slayers" looks to regain his independence while taking down the game's mastermind (Michael C. Hall, "Dexter")

Strap yourself in, because this trailer is a doozy:

I'm not usually a caps lock guy but JESUS CHRIST. I don't know if it's the lackluster quality of the video, but this jam really gives me a mid-late 90's movie vibe, and nothing strikes closer to my heart. Co-starring Ludacris, John Leguizamo ("Super Mario Bros") and Milo Ventimiglia ("Heroes," "Cursed") as the subtly named "Rick Rape," this thing has Cheez-Wiz written all over it. Not to mention the fact that it combines one of my favorite activities (gaming) with one of my favorite stand up bits of all time, George Carlin's piece about sectioning off four contiguous states and letting inmates fight to the death in them. Slated for release on September 4th of this year, it's on the tail end of the summer blockbuster list, but you can bet your ass that I'll be gearing up with gallons of Mountain Dew and testosterone shots in the meantime.
