Coraline Trailer

I read Neil Gaiman's book Coraline when I was in my very early twenties. It's a rather thin book with large text; quite obviously for children. That being said, it scared the crap out of me.

I had heard rumblings of a film version. How exciting! The imagery presented in the book could very easily lend itself to film. Why then, does this trailer give me an overwhelming sense of "meh"?

I mean, when everything is said and done, it IS a kids movie based on a kids book. I just hoped it would be a bit darker.
