Sundance 2009: Genre Movies and Oddities

As you might know, the Sundance film festival is going on this week. It's not much of a festival for horror films but a few always manage to slip in. We reported on the fainting-spell-inducing Grace a few days ago. Now lets take a look at a few other genre-related films making their debut at Sundance.

Oscar Nominations Announced... Yawn

The nominations are out, and they are... boring. Sorry, hate to be that guy, but looking down the list of this year's nominees there's not a whole lot to really get excited about.

Horror Headlines: Thursday January 22nd, 2009

The adaptation of the Award Winning Graphic Novel "Preacher", now has a writer: John August. If you recalll, Sam Mendes ("American Beauty", "Road to Perdition") has already been tapped as the director. The credits of August's that stick out to me most would be "Corpse Bride" and "Big Fish", both films he wrote.

IFC films has just picked up two films for US Distribution, The Nazi-Zombie movie "Dead Snow" and "The Objective" from Dan Myrick, co-director of "The Blair Witch Project. "The Objective" is about a special forces team in Afghanistan who unexpectedly runs into an ancient evil.

Check out this 4 minute intro the the video game "Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena". The game continues on the story started in "Pitch Black" starring Vin Diesel, and is a sequel to 2004's "Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay".

When confronted by a TMZ reporter on "Scream 4" recently, David Arquette had this to say: "There's big talk about it now, not just on the Internet. There's actual calls being made."

Abigail Breslin has joined the cast of "Zombieland", Columbia pictures Zomcom starring Woody Harrelson. For those who don't know who Breslin is, she's one of those little girls who's supposed to be cute because she's smarter than she should be and says stuff that no child would ever say. I know, such the little trailblazer.

This one's just for Mark since he's so excited about this... Interview with the "Final Destination: Death Ride 3D" director of photography.

Whoa, guess I'm glad that I never moved on that urge to move to Iceland back when they had the highest standard of living in the world... because now, Iceland is pretty much on the verge of collapse, due to the recent failure of it's three largest banks. Scary.

Parrot ejected from soccer game in the UK for imitating the ref's whistle. I'm not going to lie, that kind of just made my day right there.

On this day in history:

1987: The State Treasurer of Pennsylvania, R. Budd Dwyer, proclaims his innocence to fraud charges at a crowded press conferences and then pulls a gun out of an envelope and blows his brains out.

Hi my name is Joe and I’m a chronic bed wetter

Or is it I have a drinking problem? I can never really remember. But that is neither here nor there. I'm here to introduce myself as the newest gang member of the Bloody Good Horror crew. First off I can get your initial question out of the way by saying I was beat into the gang. I want people to respect me here and being sexed in just isn’t the way to start things off. I live with my wife in the beautiful state of New Jersey and work in the big NYC at a job I’m not even sure how to explain so I won’t even bother.
