Concert Review - Texas Hippie Coalition, Anti-Mortem

There was a time when sludgy, fuzzy metal reigned supreme. It doesn’t seem possible, but it was almost fifteen years ago that we were satiated by the overdriven, detuned glory of pinnacle acts like White Zombie, Pantera and Powerman 5000. All of those acts did something a little different, to be certain, but they all subscribed to one basic core principle; that metal needed to be loud, rhythmic and easily accessible above all other qualities.

Album Review: Ronnie James Dio - This Is Your Life [Tribute Album]

In the annuls of heavy metal, when all is said and done, I continue to believe that Ronnie James Dio will endure as the greatest hard rock and heavy metal singer of all time. From his early days in Rainbow, until his last recordings with Heaven & Hell, there was no denying the force of nature that was Ronnie James Dio. He was everything that was great about metal; a caring, intelligent man who loved nothing more than the power of music. Throughout his illustrious career, Dio's voice became synonymous with metal, his voice the soundtrack of countless lives.

Defending The Crown: An Interview With Tobias Sammet

For nearly twenty years, Tobias Sammet has been the reigning mad genius of modern heavy metal. Between his main band Edguy, and the epic concept albums he's made with his Avantasia project, no one can match the quality and output he has mustered. From helping redefine modern power metal with “Theater Of Salvation”, to reigniting the concept album as a force in metal, to showing that hard rock and heavy metal can coexist within the same band, Tobi has done it all. Every decade has had important figures who have helped define what metal was in their day, and Tobi has been that for the past decade. As Edguy unveils their new album, “Space Police – Defenders Of The Crown”, Tobi took the time to answer a few questions on the nature of being a songwriter, his band's past and future, and a mutual musical hero.
I've heard the new album, and it's another really good Edguy album. What do you think sets "Space Police" apart from other Edguy albums?

Album Review: Pilgrim - "II:Void Worship"

Take a look around. Everything seems to be moving so quickly. Today's world is a fast paced, go-go, what's next, sort of place. We should all strive to take a few moments to slow things down a bit. Fortunately, we now have a soundtrack to help us achieve that very thing and it comes in the form of the new album by the Rhode Island based doom metal trio known as Pilgrim, "II: Void Worship".

"II: Void Worship" is a sequel to their first album, "Misery Wizard" which I was unfamiliar with prior to hearing this new album. So, this was my introduction to Pilgrim.

Horror Icon Mini-Marathon: JOHN CARPENTER

It goes without saying that John Carpenter, the composer, writer, and director of some of the most well-known and well-received films in the horror and science-fiction genres, is a horror icon. There is dispute, however, on which films people would consider to be included in his classic or iconic canon. Though “Halloween” and “The Thing” are readily mentioned, with occasional nods to “They Live” and “The Fog” included by real fans, often the rest of his body of work is overlooked or discounted.
